February and July 2011
Workingman Collective was invited by the
International Center for Disaster Resilience, associated with the Harvard Medical School, as an
artist-team to help develop strategies for combining medical, physical,
psycho-social and aesthetic approaches to sustainable coping and wellness practices
in the post-earthquake Port Au Prince community. After seeing the scope of ICDR's work
in Haiti we began to developed ideas for simple opportunities of transformation,
such as walls or tables, into spaces for potential conversation,
imagination, and empowerment.
In
July 2011 we created a chalkboard wall surface and drop-down chalkboard table combo for and with the
ORAEDAH orphanage in Port Au Prince. We also met and engaged with Haitian artists and cultural activists exploring possibilities for meaningful collaboration creative goodwill.
